Get a Free Quote →Patient lifts are among the highest-risk pieces of equipment in any long-term care facility. Lift failures can cause serious resident and staff injuries — and CMS surveyors pay close attention to lift maintenance documentation. Under NFPA 99, patient lifts that make electrical contact with patients are subject to PCREE testing requirements. Beyond electrical safety, all lifts require regular mechanical inspection, battery testing, and sling inspection to remain safe for use.
Medical Equipment Repair Network connects healthcare facilities with biomedical technicians who inspect, test, and repair patient lifts to manufacturer specifications and NFPA 99 standards. We service all major lift brands and provide the written PM documentation your surveyor will request.
Services Included
Annual Preventive Maintenance
Full mechanical inspection, battery condition testing, motor function check, emergency stop testing, and lubrication per manufacturer PM schedule. Written documentation provided.
PCREE Electrical Safety Testing
Leakage current and ground continuity testing for electric patient lifts as required by NFPA 99. Includes written test report per device.
Load Testing
Safe working load (SWL) verification to confirm the lift can handle its rated capacity. Required after repairs and recommended annually for ceiling track systems.
Sling Inspection
Visual and functional inspection of all lift slings for tears, fraying, hardware damage, and label legibility. Sling replacement available from multiple manufacturers.
Battery Replacement
Battery testing and replacement for portable and ceiling track lifts. We stock batteries for all major brands and can typically complete replacement on the same visit.

Frequently Asked Questions
CMS and NFPA 99 require that patient lifts be maintained per the manufacturer's recommended PM schedule — typically annually for most models. High-use lifts in bariatric or memory care units may require more frequent inspection. All lifts should be inspected after any incident, repair, or sling replacement.
Electric patient lifts that make electrical contact with patients — through the sling or harness — are subject to PCREE testing requirements under NFPA 99. Manual hydraulic lifts without any electrical components are generally not subject to PCREE requirements, but still require regular mechanical inspection and documentation.
You need a preventive maintenance record for each lift showing the PM date, tasks performed, technician name and signature, any deficiencies found and corrected, and next scheduled PM date. For electric lifts, PCREE test reports are additionally required. All records must be retained and available to surveyors on request.
Our network services all major patient lift brands including Arjo (Arjohuntleigh), Liko, Joerns (Hoyer), Invacare, Drive Medical, Prism Medical, Guldmann, and others. Contact us with your specific model and we'll confirm service availability in your area.
