Vital sign monitors are among the most frequently surveyed pieces of equipment in any healthcare setting. CMS surveyors specifically look for PM documentation, calibration records, and PCREE test reports when conducting Life Safety reviews. A monitor delivering inaccurate readings is not only a clinical risk — it's a citation waiting to happen.

Medical Equipment Repair Network connects skilled nursing facilities, hospitals, and clinics with biomedical technicians who carry calibrated patient simulators for all major vital sign monitor brands. We provide output verification, electrical safety testing, and CMS-ready written documentation for every device we service.

Services Included

Calibration with Patient Simulator

Verification of SpO2, NIBP, temperature, and ECG accuracy using a calibrated patient simulator. Results documented per channel per device.

PCREE Electrical Safety Testing

Leakage current, chassis leakage, and ground continuity testing as required by NFPA 99. Written test report per unit formatted for CMS survey review.

Annual Preventive Maintenance

Full PM inspection per manufacturer schedule: display, alarm function, battery condition, sensor and cable integrity, physical housing inspection.

Battery Service

Battery condition testing and replacement for portable and transport monitors. Battery replacement documented in the device service record.

Repair Services

Diagnosis and repair of display faults, SpO2 module failures, NIBP pump issues, and connectivity problems. Loaner coordination available through our network.

Pulse Oximeter Service

Calibration and PCREE testing for standalone and handheld pulse oximeters used in patient care areas.

Equipment We Service

  • Bedside vital sign monitors (Welch Allyn, Mindray, Philips, GE)
  • Transport/portable monitors
  • Standalone SpO2 monitors
  • Handheld pulse oximeters
  • Combination ECG/vital sign monitors
  • Spot check monitors (Welch Allyn Connex)
  • Central station monitoring systems (PM only)

Frequently Asked Questions

Proper calibration requires a calibrated patient simulator that supports the specific channels in your monitor — SpO2, NIBP, temperature, and ECG/heart rate. The simulator itself must have a current calibration certificate traceable to NIST standards. Our technicians carry appropriately calibrated simulators for all major monitor brands.

Most manufacturers recommend annual PM and calibration. Monitors used in high-acuity or continuous monitoring settings benefit from semi-annual review. Any monitor that has been repaired or shows suspect readings should be re-verified before returning to patient care.

Each monitor receives a written service record documenting calibration results per channel, PCREE electrical safety measurements, any repairs performed, technician credentials, and service date. This record is formatted to meet CMS survey documentation requirements.

Patient-applied pulse oximeters used in direct patient care settings are subject to NFPA 99 PCREE testing requirements. This includes standalone bedside units and handheld oximeters in SNF and clinical settings. Battery-only oximeters with no AC connection are generally lower risk but should still be documented in your PM program.
